Robotic Surgery

Center for Robotic Surgery at Bayshore Medical Center

At Hackensack Meridian Health Bayshore Medical Center, we combine our surgeon’s expertise with robotic accuracy to provide even more options for minimally invasive surgery. Thanks to an unmatched level of clinical expertise and excellence, supported by advanced technology, Bayshore’s surgeons can operate with greater dexterity and control than with traditional surgical approaches.

Bayshore’s surgical team is a skilled and specialized group hailing from prestigious institutes, with surgeons highly trained in robotic surgery. Our physicians, working side-by-side with our Magnet-recognized nurses, take a highly collaborative approach to patient care, coordinating the best possible patient outcomes. The Center for Robotic Surgery at Bayshore is capable of performing many types of surgeries, including: general surgery, urologic surgery and gynecological surgery.

Robotic surgery at Bayshore is performed in a dedicated operating room using our state-of-the-art da Vinci® system. This robot affords each surgeon increased control and pinpoint surgical accuracy.

What is robotic surgery?

Robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery uses a surgical robot to assist in performing complex operations without the need for a large incision. By combining robotics and state-of-the-art technology, surgeons can operate with greater dexterity and control than with traditional surgical approaches. In addition to a quicker recovery time, other potential benefits of robotic surgery include less blood loss, reduced postoperative pain, reduced risk for infection, faster recovery and less need for narcotic pain medications.

With robotic-assisted surgery, you can have major surgery with only a few tiny incisions.

Benefits of robotic surgery:

  • Minimally invasive
  • Faster recovery
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Less pain and blood loss
  • Smaller, less noticeable scars
  • Decreased risk of infection

da Vinci® Surgical System

The da Vinci Surgical System enhances our surgeons’ precision and capability in performing complex, minimally invasive surgery. Surgeons using the da Vinci system sit in a console that provides a three-dimensional view of their operating field and operate the master controls located below the screen. These controls guide the robotic arms that manipulate the instruments and insert a tiny camera, enabling the surgeon to see inside the patient. The surgical robot is unique, providing a three-dimensional view, greater magnification, and instrument arms that allow more freedom, mimicking the movements of a human wrist.

The surgeon views an actual image of the surgical field while operating, though they are seated in a console a few feet from the patient. This system replicates the surgeon’s movements and cannot make decisions on its own or perform any surgical maneuvers without the surgeon’s input.
