Holmdel, NJ - Ivan C. Brown, CPA, has been named 2010 Humanitarian of the Year by Bayshore Community Health Services in Holmdel. He will be honored at the Bayshore Community Hospital Foundation's Charity Ball on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at the American Hotel in Freehold, NJ.

Since 1992, Ivan Brown has devoted his time and financial skills to almost every area of Bayshore's organization, and has served on several committees, including the Finance, Investment, Quality, Audit, Hospital and Joint Conference committees. He also chairs the Governance committee. "We are grateful that Ivan Brown has chosen to invest his time and skills in Bayshore for almost two decades," says Wendell Smith, Esq., chairperson of the Bayshore Community Hospital Foundation. "His leadership has made an important difference in the lives of our patients and their families, our relationships with our physicians, nurses and staff, and in the improvement of our community's health."

Brown has more than 40 years of public accounting experience; he is one of the founders of WithumSmith+Brown, a regional certified public accounting firm ranked as a Top 10 firm in the state by NJBIZ and served as managing partner for 20 years. He works primarily with privately-held businesses in the construction, advertising, professional services and manufacturing sectors.

He received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the State University of New York at Albany, is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA), where he is a former president of the Monmouth-Ocean chapter. In 2009 Brown was a finalist for Corporate Citizen of the Year, a program of NJBIZ.

Brown has been active for many years as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and serves on the board of the Eastern Division where he was recently elected to serve as first vice president. He is a former president of the Monmouth-Ocean Chapter of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. Brown is an avid runner having completed 19 marathons and is currently training for the New York City Marathon in November where he'll be running for charity.

"Making a difference in another person's life is what it is all about," says Brown. "I am proud to be a part of a healthcare system like Bayshore that is a leader in providing high quality, compassionate care to patients."
