Meridian Health Receives Grant from Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Central and South Jersey

Neptune, NJ - The Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Central and South Jersey, has awarded over $80,000 in grants to three Meridian Health hospitals; Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Ocean Medical Center, and Southern Ocean Medical Center.

Funding supports efforts from providers at each medical center to improve the health of the community by teaching women in the community about the importance of breast health and breast. Jersey Shore University Medical Center has received additional grant money for vouchers to provide free mammograms to women who are uninsured or underinsured.

"These grants are helping a significant number of women in Monmouth and Ocean counties, who are not receiving annual mammograms because of misperceptions, fear, cultural barriers, and costs," says Amy Starling, director of oncology services at Meridian Health. "Through Meridian Cancer Care, we are committed to providing high quality, comprehensive breast care to all women in need."

Meridian Health has received these grants from events that Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Central and South Jersey holds throughout the year, including the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. This year, nearly twenty thousand participants will take part in what has become the largest 5K race in New Jersey on October 2 at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson.
