Bayshore Employees Extend their A.R.M.S. to Our Troops
Wouldn’t every mother want to provide for the needs of her child, even if he or she is more than 7,000 miles away at war? Maryellen O’Malley, patient care associate, did just that with the help of other Bayshore Community Health Services employees, answering the call of many United States soldiers.

Ms. O’Malley has been shipping needed items to her son, Billy, stationed in Afghanistan for some time, through the American Recreational Military Services (A.R.M.S.), a public charity founded in 2001 by a group of grassroots volunteers who wanted to give something back to the military and their families. More than 325 volunteers throughout the tri-state area, provide services to local armories, direct assistance to family members in need and support addressing quality of life issues for soldiers and their families.

"Bayshore Community Health Services employees are a tight-knit family," explains Wendy Brown, vice president of patient care services. "Our organization understands the importance of community so it only seemed fitting to say ‘thank-you’ to our military and their families, who are sacrificing for us everyday, by reaching out to our Bayshore ‘family’ to make donations."

Bayshore Community Health Services had more than 25 beautifully decorated, collection boxes positioned throughout the organization for five weeks. Employees and supporters donated needed items such as, socks, personal items, cookies, gum, cereal and ChapStick. A.R.M.S. agreed to pick up the collection boxes and ship the items to our troops at no cost.

The A.R.M.S. organization is currently working on its Project Little Soldier holiday effort and it also accepts monetary donations dedicated to shipping costs. Visit www.supportarms.org for more information.
