Volunteer At Bayshore Community Hospital
Our volunteer team consists of hundreds of dedicated individuals who find
great reward in helping others while meeting new friends. Requirements
are having a willingness to help and the desire to make a difference!
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers at Bayshore Community Hospital and its affiliates have a wide
variety of jobs to choose from and can work in either patient or
nonpatient areas.
Emergency Department Advocates
Volunteers assist Emergency Department staff by transporting patients to
X-ray, helping with tray distribution, delivering specimens to the lab
and filing charts. Emergency Department Volunteer Advocates help by
providing information to family members on patient care and act as a
liaison between the emergency staff and the patient.
Messenger Service
If you like to be on-the-go, this is the job for you! Some
responsibilities of a messenger include helping discharge patients,
assisting staff with daily tasks, running errands and helping assemble
charts for the nursing floors.
Gift Shop
Volunteers operate the cash register and lottery machine, take
inventory, and gift wrap merchandise. This is an excellent opportunity
to meet, greet and help people in a pleasant surrounding.
Assisting with Patients
Volunteers help feed patients, read to them, make beds and answer call
bells.
Information Desk
Volunteers help create a first impression by greeting visitors and
patients. They give directions and patient information, as well as
provide wheelchair service when necessary. If you are friendly and
outgoing, this might be the perfect opportunity for you!
Senior Services
Volunteers work with the geriatric population in our nursing home,
assisted living residence and Adult Day facilities by visiting,
feeding, transporting and assisting staff with recreation.
Greeters/Escort Volunteers
Patients registering in the Outpatient Department are now greeted in a
friendly and pleasant manner by a volunteer who signs them in and
assists with any insurance papers or references needed. The volunteer
will also escort the patient (by wheelchair if necessary) to the
treatment or testing area. Volunteers are available Monday through
Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
RAP Program (Residents Assistance Program)
Teen Volunteers (ages 14-18) can become involved in this after-school
program that offers teen interaction with seniors. Teens from area
hospitals report to Bayshore Health Care Center (nursing home) to help
transport residents to the dining room and spend the dinner hour talking
and helping to feed them. This program runs from Monday to Friday from
4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Volunteer Rewards
Aside from the personal satisfaction Volunteers receive by giving of
their time, our Volunteers receive complimentary meals at the cafeteria,
enjoy holiday parties and award recognition dinners, free parking
invitations to corporate events and social interaction with staff and
peers.
